A declined transfer means the payment wasn't carried out and the money stays in your account. Here are the most common reasons.
The receiving bank declined it
This is the most frequent cause, particularly for SEPA Instant transfers. The receiving bank runs its own checks — including the reason you gave for the payment — and can decline it under its own policies. We don't receive an explanation when it does.
- Write a clearer reason for the payment. "Invoice 2481, web design services, July" works better than "payment".
- Check the beneficiary's details — name, IBAN and, where required, address.
- Try again, and if it's declined a second time, send it as a SEPA standard transfer instead.
Other common reasons
- Not enough available balance — a transfer needs the amount plus the fee available at the moment it executes.
- It exceeds one of your limits — per transfer, per day or per month. See "Bank transfer limits".
- We asked for information and didn't hear back in time — check your email. Upload any documents in your account, not by replying to the email.
- Your account isn't fully verified, or is restricted — we'll have already contacted you if this applies.
- The beneficiary's name doesn't match their bank's records — a "No Match" result doesn't block the transfer. But continuing past it makes an error more likely.

SEPA Instant option not showing
This is almost always about the beneficiary's bank, not your account. We check whether their bank is reachable for instant payments before offering you the option — not every bank supports it, and reachability varies by route.
- The transfer isn't in euro, or the beneficiary is outside the SEPA area
- The transfer exceeds a limit that applies to instant payments
- You're paying another myPOS account — these arrive instantly without using SEPA Instant
Send the payment as a SEPA standard transfer instead. It reaches the beneficiary's bank by the end of the next business day, with no extra details needed. If instant payments are consistently unavailable across all your beneficiaries, email us with a few examples so we can investigate.
